Within Issue 115

The Winter 2026 issue of the PMLD LINK journal has the theme of Health, although, as ever, we welcome contributions on ANY topics that are important or of interest to you.

As expressed in the PMLD CORE & ESSENTIAL SERVICE STANDARDS, it should be the goal of every service that they ensure effective support to promote the health and wellbeing of each person, including any specialist health care needs that increase the vulnerability of the person. We keep coming across mentions of good practice and would love to be able to report this to our readers. Yet we know from articles in this journal, other charities and from the PMLD LINK reference group that there remain concerns about variability in the quality of hospital care and support for people with PMLD using community services. This is a time when scrutiny is on the NHS generally, its forward planning and especially on the findings from the latest LeDeR report.

So, we would like to share more about what is happening nationally and locally as regards, for example, postural care management, Annual Health Checks with local GPs, individualised and meaningful Health Action Plans, transitions from child to adult services, Hospital Passports, effective communication between professionals and parents/carers to share knowledge and information about a person’s wellbeing, sharing information about epilepsy and other medical conditions, managing nutrition, hydration and constipation, and accessing advice and guidance from speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and other specialist healthcare professionals.

We welcome contributions from anyone, whether you’ve written before or not! The Editors are keen to support new writers and are happy to offer help to those who want it. (Find out more: https://www.pmldlink.org.uk/get-involved/#guidelines)

We like to include photos and photo stories, if at all possible. So, please do think about sharing photos – whether it is to accompany a written piece or just to submit with a caption or couple of lines of description. You can find our consent form and photo guidelines on our website (https://www.pmldlink.org.uk/get-involved/).

Articles should be 300 to 1500 words max and submitted in Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format (not PDF), please. We also welcome brief items of news or reviews, about resources, blogs, books, websites, forthcoming events and courses – so please let us know about these too.

All contributions by Monday 5th October 2026 at the latest to: info@pmldlink.org.uk please.

For further guidance or to discuss your ideas, please feel free to contact the editors.

Many thanks in advance!
