Within This Issue

This issue is brimming with articles that we know you will find both compelling and informative. Our articles, the wonderful collection of photos and even poems we hope reflect our wide ranging readership – families (parents, siblings, grandparents, nephews, and cousins we know are featured this time), people with disabilities, researchers and a number of professional perspectives. Contributors have so generously shared personal and professional insights and reflections into open intimate aspects of their own lives or those of people with PMLD that they love, care for and support. However emotive [and some are!] they each have a very positive and inspiring perspective.

The edition begins with a focus on Family issues. The first article from a parent shows a positive view of the life of, and preparing for the end of life of, her daughter and shares some very valuable information. Another author reflects on the life of her brother and her memories of them growing up together. Two other articles offer different experiences of family life from carers who are not parents. There is a description of resources developed as part of a project to support families with children who have complex health needs. There is information about two valuable resources for families about safeguarding. The next part of the issue is on Friends and friendship: an account of spending time with her two friends; a teacher’s role in enabling friendships to develop in the classroom; projects from Open Storytellers to promote friendship and meaningful participation; and insights gained through research into friendship for people with PMLD. There is information about the Family Fund and an update on government plans for education.
